November 2021

Dear Friends,

We have begun rehearsing (fully vaccinated, masked, and at a social distance of course!) for Haydn’s Nelson Mass which we will perform for you (Covid-permitting) on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at St Boniface Cathedral. This work has been on our “wish list’ for some time; all of Haydn’s late masses are regarded as masterworks and this one is deemed to be his single greatest composition. It will be paired with Peteris Vasks’ Dona Nobis Pacem and the concert will feature our friends from the WSO along with soprano Andrea Lett, alto Kirsten Schellenberg, tenor James McLennan, and bass Justin Welsh.

Tickets will be on sale once we are certain that we will be performing this concert, and we will update our website and let our audience know. If you haven’t already, please sign up for our PhilNotes e-news (we only send it when we have important information to share!) and watch our social media channels for breaking news.

While we are so sorry that we once again had to cancel Christmas with the Phil, we can still provide some comfort and joy with our Annual Poinsettia sale. This fundraising event has become even more critical as it is helping to support our operations during a time when we are unable to generate sorely-needed revenue through concerts.

More importantly, these beautiful plants are sure to brighten up your home and the lives of loved ones, clients or staff. Order deadline is Tuesday, November 16, with pickup Saturday November 27. For more information click HERE.

In the meantime, we remain so very grateful to our sponsors, donors, audience members and choristers. Your ongoing support means we can continue planning for the future, including our fast-approaching 100th anniversary, just one short year away. But first, Haydn’s stirring Nelson Mass in March!

Until then, we are yours in harmony,

The Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir
