June 2021

Dear Phil Patron,

Summer is just around the corner! Normally, after our season of performances is complete, we spend a few rehearsals beginning to learn repertoire for the upcoming season. As “normal” seems so far away right now, we are instead devising a few scenarios that we hope will culminate in being able to sing for all of you once again in the upcoming 2021/22 season.

All our plans, of course, hinge on the pandemic and public health orders.

Our most viable scenario includes opening with our Christmas concert in December at Crescent Fort Rouge, followed by concerts in March (with the WSO at the St Boniface Cathedral) and in April (again, with the WSO). We will keep you posted here on the website, via social media and via email (JOIN OUR MAIL LIST).

Another prime focus for the Phil is our fast approaching 100th Anniversary season. The Phil’s first concert was Dec 11, 1922, and so we are kicking off the 2022/23 season with a Christmas concert Dec 11, 2022, featuring alumni as guest choristers, singing under the direction of Artistic Director Yuri Klaz and former conductor Henry Engbrecht. We invite all alumni to contact us via to keep in the loop on this concert and all other plans we are devising to celebrate this milestone. And, if you are interested in serving on the 100th Anniversary committee in any capacity, or simply want to be kept apprised of our plans, please contact us via the same email.

This is also the time of year when we begin recruiting new board members. If you’re looking for a great experience with an awesome group of people, or know of someone who’s looking to contribute to the arts community in Winnipeg, please email The next few years will be exciting ones here at the Phil!

We’d like to take this time to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who has donated, or purchased poinsettias, spring plants or Safeway/Sobey’s gift cards. Your incredible support of the Phil in this most extraordinary time means more than you know.

And so, until we can gather again to make music for the best audience in the world, we wish you and yours a warm, happy, Covid-free summer.

The Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, Western Canada’s longest-established adult choral group, has a well-earned reputation for excellence. A choral trademark for the City of Winnipeg, the Phil’s repertoire covers a broad range of music including oratorios, masses, songs, and choral symphonies with a focus on major choral works with orchestral accompaniment. Priding itself on premiering original music, the Phil has commissioned works by composers from both Manitoba and across Canada. The choir has also captivated audiences in Toronto, Vancouver and New York’s storied Carnegie Hall.
